The 6th Workshop on Geology of Singapore
Co-organised by SRMEG & GeoSS
Wednesday, 11 July 2018// 9.00 am to 5.00 pm
Venue: Seminar Room 1.1, Singapore Management University School of Accountancy
60 Stamford Room Singapore 17890063
COURSE SYNOPSIS:
This workshop is organised for the 6th time in consideration of good response in 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2014 and 2016. It aims to present and discuss systematically the geology of Singapore, as the Geological Map of Singapore has been updated from the old version published in 1976 and a new Stratigraphical Framework for geology of Singapore has been proposed. Recently, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) organised the exhibition “The Underground: Singapore's Next Frontier”. National Development Minister Lawrence Wong, who was at the opening of the exhibition, announced that a 3D underground masterplan by URA will unveil pilot areas and their potential uses next year. With an increasing demand of deep excavation, tunnelling and underground rock cavern development in Singapore, it is important for regulators, planners, developers, engineers and contractors to have a more comprehensive understanding of Singapore geology, the use of updated Singapore Geological Map and the planning for geologic investigations. This workshop brings together experts and practitioners from Singapore to share their knowledge and experience.

Introduce the New Stratigraphical Framework for Singapore Provide an overview on the new stratigraphical framework for geology of Singapore based on new findings gathered from deep boreholes and geophysical survey carried out by BCA and also geological mapping of rock exposures found in Singapore. The new stratigraphical framework is now consistent with International Commission of Stratigraphy (ICS) guidelines and included a number of significant changes to the way geological units in Singapore were classified and named. |
