Controlled Rock Blasting in Urban Environment

by Dr. An Xinmei, Land Transport Authority

Wednesday, 29th May 2024 // 7.00 - 8.30 pm

ABSTRACT:

The seminar will explore controlled rock blasting techniques used in urban environment in Singapore. Key topics include rock blasting design elements such as decoupled charging, spacing, delay blasting, aimed at balancing efficiency and minimising impacts on nearby structures. Empirical formulae for predicting ground vibrations were caliberated with instrumentation data. Measures to reduce vibrations and mitigate fly rocks, including traffic management and line drilling to protect structures will be discussed. Suggested blasting limits for various structural components will be provided. As Singapore lacks formal blasting limits for various structural shared data can serve as a reference for future projects.
