A Glimpse of Tunnelling in Malaysia

The presentation will provide an up-to-date overview of the notable trends and developments of tunnels in Malaysia. It will also outline the recent achievements in tunnel and tunnelling technology and development of risk management in tunnelling works locally. The sustainable use of tunnels in Malaysia to support the UN's Sustainable Development Goals will be briefly discussed with a few case studies.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Ir. Khoo Chee Ming has more than 20 years of work experience specializing in geotechnical and tunnel engineering on the diverse building and infrastructure projects. He is a past Chairman of Tunnelling and Underground Space Technical Division, IEM as well as Deputy Organising Chairman of World Tunnel Congress 2020. He serves as Member Nation's representative to the International Tunnelling & Underground Space Association (ITA) Working Group 2 - Research and Working Group 11 - Immersed and Floating Tunnels. He has published more than 20 technical papers and is the co-author for the winning paper entitled "The Present & Future Sustainable Use of Underground Space in Malaysia" which was awarded the Tan Sri Ir. Hj. Yusoff Prize 2019, the highest recognition for outstanding technical papers on engineering contributed by corporate members of IEM in the civil engineering discipline.
