Restrained Cracking - Problems & Sustainable Solutions

ABSTRACT:
Controlling restrained cracking has become more important in terms of sustainability. Because crack control is one of the key for prevent the corrosion and the water leakage. It will prolong the service life of structures and contribute to the reduction of embodied carbon. The speaker has been involved in some construction projects for joint-less floors & civil engineering structures in the Asia Pacific region. He will introduce the mechanism of expansive concrete, how to compensate the shrinkage, how to estimate the possibility of cracks with some case studies and solutions. He will also introduce the combination of expansive additive with supplementary cementitious material such as GGBS and FA for additional CO2 reduction.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Dr. Takayuki HIGUCHI is the Technical Manager of Denka Japan Infrastructure Technologies Research Department. He has more than 20 years of experience for cement, concrete and construction chemicals. He holds a Doctors degree in Material Engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2016. Dr. Higuchi was a Director of Technical & Operation in Denka Construction Solutions Malaysia Sdn Bhd from 2020 to 2022. Denka specializes in manufacturing the special cement additives for Concrete such as Tunnel shotcrete, Quick hardening, High strength, Expansion and Waterproofing which are necessary for safety, productivity, durability and cost saving for concrete and construction projects.
