ABSTRACT:

This webinar will present general information about the tunnel, location and geology, tunnel alignment, tunnelling method, difficulties encountered during tunnelling, cross passage construction by ground freezing method, challenges encountered during cross passage construction & lessons learned. A very comprehensive story about the construction of the Karnaphuli Tunnel.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Mr. Erkin Sivgin graduated from Istanbul Technical University, Turkey with a B.Sc. in Geological Engineering in 2006. Through his professional career, Erkin has worked on multinational projects with international teams - Bechtel, Astaldi, Gulermak, SKEC, Obayashi, John Holland, Leigton, Zublin and currently SMEC. He has involved and worked in mining tunnelling, TBM tunnelling, various types of ERSS (i.e. slurry trench walls, bored pile walls), underground structures, extensive earth works etc. He has currently finished three cross passages in the sedimentary sands of Karnaphuli river and leading the consultants's team on pre-commissioning, commissioning and trial run of the tunnel.
