Rapid Rock Slopes Inspection and Risk Assessment using Lidar Drones

Latest airborne LIDAR technology can now allow geotechnical engineers to obtain data of structural and/or geotechnical interest with accurate resolution. From these data, it is now possible to generate georeferenced point clouds where geotechnical engineers can filter away vegetation thus identify geology, discontinuities, plane distributions, and rock qualities. From usage of airborne LIDAR technology, faster slope and block kinematics can be developed. It could also allow faster and more accurate determination of statistical size of the blocks; rock fall analysis and mapping; local-global stabilities analysis, calculation of protections and stabilizations.

Dr. Carles Raimat Quintana graduated from the Department of Geology, University Autonoma de Barcelona, UAB, Spain with PhD in Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering.
Dr Carles has more than 25 years of experience in rock and soil slope stabilization works.
