Low Carbon Sprayed Concrete (LCSC)

In underground construction including sprayed concrete linings (SCL), typical requirements for rapid setting and early-age strength development lead to CEM I rich concretes with cement contents in excess of 400kg/m3 which, compounded by greater admixture usage, lead to a high carbon footprint compared with typical cast-in-situ concretes. Research work, supported in part by innovation funding associated with the UK's ongoing National High Speed (HS2) Rail Project with the aim of reducing this carbon footprint, will be presented here.
ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:
Chris Peaston - Director of Peaston Concrete Consultancy Ltd is a materials specialist with a particular expertise based on 35 years' experience in sprayed and fibre concretes, and a co-author of the HS2 S1 & S2 Contract SCL specification.
Chris Goodier of Loughborough University is an experienced Civil Engineer, Chartered Builder and Researcher with 25 years' experience of all aspects of construction.
The presentation will also involve a Q&A Expert panel incorporating the speakers plus LCSC Project Team members: Stuart Manning of Shotcrete Services Ltd (a sprayed concrete contractor with two generations worth of materials, machinery, equipment and application experience); John Reddy of Ecocem (GGBS and powdered accelerator suppliers), and; Michael Sataya of Arup (a Chartered Senior Civil Engineer with 12 years' expererience and an MSc in Advanced Concrete Technology).
